or just when you've bought a whole bunch of them, make lemonade!
Actually, Scott has been asking if we could make real lemonade for quite a while now, so today we pulled out all of the supplies, found a recipe on the web and gave it a go.
Sugar and lemons...that's pretty much it as far as ingredients go. That and some water.
Scott has fun in the kitchen. My lemon-eyed boy.
This would have gone much faster had we had a juicer, but we didn't let our lack of one stop us. Scotty did drop a lemon half into the measuring cup and got some juice in his eye. That slowed him down a bit for a short time, but you can't keep a thirsty boy down for long.
Do you like Scotty's Elvis sideburns? Yep...after we made lemonade we sat him down and gave him a haircut. But I digress...
It took us a while to squeeze all of our lemons, but we got there eventually.
We were aiming for two cups of juice, but came up a bit shy. It was Scotty's job to do all the measuring.
After the lemons were all squeezed, Scotty put water and sugar in a sauce pan.
While he did that, I got the seeds out of the lemon juice and put it into a pitcher.
Scotty stirred the water and sugar over medium high heat until the sugar dissolved. This is to make a sort of syrup. If the sugar is melted when it's added to the lemon juice and water, it won't all just sink to the bottom.
We poured the syrup in with the lemon juice and then Scotty measured four cups of water and added it to the pitcher. He stirred it up and then it was time for the taste test.
Success! It wasn't too tart and it wasn't too sweet. It was pretty darn tasty.
We got about 2 quarts out of our recipe. We called Maya down and filled three glasses with ice and our lemony concoction.
I told Scott we needed to buy a juicer and some popsicle molds. These would be great frozen as hot summer day treats.
This is where we found our recipe if you'd like to give it a go.
Love homemade lemonade!!! Looks yummy
