Scott loves science. He would sit and do science in school all day long, especially the experiments. We have done a lot of them this first five weeks of school, but no matter how many I have planned, Scott wants more. Seriously, how cool is that?
This week, we are studying Isaac Newton and have a packet full of experiments for Scotty to perform. Today was his first.
Newton's first law of motion says that an object in motion stays in motion unless some outside force acts on it. This law is also called the law of inertia.
Scott had to find a car and a doll to put inside of it. He chose a Sam doll from the Transformers movies, (naturally) but Sam wouldn't fit into the car Scott wanted to use for the experiment. Scott did some downsizing.
Poor Sam. He lost his lower legs and his head. Ah...it was for the greater good, however. Onward to the experiment.

This is Scotty's experiment all set up. He's got his ramp and a stop at the bottom with Sam and his car up at the top.
During this test, Sam is not wearing a seat belt, nor does he have an air bag. Let's see how this journey turns out for him.
Yikes! Not well at all. Now, not only does Sam not have a head, but he's been flipped upside down in his cool little car.
Next, Scott gave Sam a seat belt, (tape) and also an air bag and sent him back down the ramp again.
Sam fared considerably better this time around and didn't move even a tiny bit.
Once the experimenting was done, Scotty gave Sam back his head and his lower legs. Here he is lounging on top of his Cobra.
Scotty learned about Newton's law of motion and also got to see how important it is to wear seat belts and how much safer air bags can make passengers in a car in the event of an accident. All good things.
